Governments initiative for promotion of educational merit through the Anundoram Borooah Award Scheme of distributing laptops to first division holders in HSLC, High Madrasa and Senior Madrasa exams in the State is noteworthy. This very innovative and motivating scheme was announced by Sri Tarun Gogoi, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Assam in the Budget Session during March, 2005 as a unique award scheme to encourage competitive spirit among the students in the State. It could be claimed to be a revolutionary educational technological promotional method of driving for both academic and all round excellence of the students.It is expected that the awarded meritorious students will be spurred on by this recognition of their merit and talent to achieve great national and international glory and bring pride and laurels for their homeland -Assam which has an ancient and rich tradition and culture of scholarly acumen and competence. This scheme which provide laptops from Internationally acclaimed brand namely Lenovo and Acer is thus designed to encourage and motivate students to strive to achieve their best academically and also to attain all their potentials in commiseration of the overall growth and development of their personality. Educational Package loaded in the Laptop ie the Laptop has been loaded with some useful software including Office suite Libre Office for word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database, drawing etc., MySQL (RDBMS package) and mathematical package SCILAB. Other than these two software packages, two useful educational packages namely BBC Spoken English Package and Educational package from Intel have been installed in the laptop for the benefit of the students. Soft copies of NCERT books for class XI & XII have also been downloaded in the laptops for helping the students in their studies. This ambitious Anundoram Borooah Award Scheme has spread the benefits of IT to more than 1,12,500 students till 2011.This year, 26,788 first division holders in the HSLC, High Madrasa and Senior Madrasa exams will receive the Award district wise, consisting of Anundoram Borooah certificate and a high end laptop. Thus,on completion of distribution of laptop under Annundoram Borooah Award Scheme'2012 , altogether more than 1,39,308 nos. students will get benefited under this scheme.

A tribute to Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, the 'wanderer' ...

Legendary poet, music composer, singer, actor, journalist, author and filmmaker, the self-proclaimed 'jajabor' (wanderer) Dr. Bhupen Hazarika took his last breath at Mumbai's Kokilaben Hospital at around 4:37 PM on Saturday, November 05, 2011. The Assam Government has declared a three-day State mourning and a half holiday on November 8 as a mark of respect to the departed soul.

He was a recipient of many awards like Padma Bhushan, Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Asom Ratna and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award among others. He touched millions of hearts with his baritone voice that will never fade from the minds of his fans and music lovers the world over.

Anundoram Borooah Award 2011

The inaugural function of Anundoram Borooah Award 2011 was held on 23rd September, 2011 at Sarusajai Sports Complex, Guwahati. The Chief Guest of the function was the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Assam, Shri Tarun Gogoi and other dignitaries present at the function were Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Hon'ble Minister of Education, Health & F.W., Assam Accord; Prof. Gautam Barua Director, IIT Guwahati, M.K. Yadava, MD(AMTRON) and many more.

Anundoram Borooah Award 2011 consists of a citation in the form of a Certificate along with a Laptop to honor the meritorious students securing First Division in the HSLC, High Madrassa, FM Examinations, under State Madrassa Education Board and Sanskrit and Pali Praveshika Examination, under Assam Sanskrit Board.

For the 6th consecutive year total 19,459 nos student will be awarded. The breakup of the students under different state boards is as shown below :
