   
Guwahati - the abode of Goddess Kamakhya, the Lord’s consort - is shaping up as the commercial bridge between Southeast Asian countries and the rest of India. Gateway to the Northeast, Guwahati inhabited by over 1.5 Million people is microcosm of the region – the rest of India too with people from all communities converging to pursue their dream here. Adding to the city’s population, 48 million people across the region comprising eight states plus Northern Bengal and Bhutan provide Guwahati enviable consumer base. The neighbouring countries Bangladesh and Myanmar have a good commercial link with Guwahati. In the last 150 years, Guwahati has graduated to a business hub and a seat of higher education. It also boasts of the country’s youngest institute of Technology – IIT Guwahati. Almost a million strong highly educated English knowing GenNext is raring to stamp in the country’s IT and other specialized knowledge based Industry.
With a view to avail the opportunities mentioned, Govt . Of Assam proposes to develop an IT Park at Guwahati over a site measuring about hundred acres located near the LGB International Airport, Guwahati, through a Public Private Partnership(PPP) mode for infrastructure development, marketing, setting up of a mechanism for operations and maintenance of the IT Park project.
Govt. of Assam has assigned Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited(AMTRON), as the nodal agency for implementation of the project on behalf of Information Technology(IT) Department, Govt. of Assam.
